A PROMISE TO HONOUR THE DEAD BECOMES A BATTLE FOR THE LIVING.
When young warrior Arnald Oberlin and elven sheriff Kysha Naberyn arrive in Wyvernmont to lay their commander to rest, whispers of a grim discovery stir the town. Two boys, slain under mysterious circumstances. An expedition into the wilds. An ancient ruin steeped in silence and shadow.
What they uncover there will awaken a hunger long buried—the Upyr, a blood-thirsty scourge capable of turning friend into foe and the innocent into monsters. As the siege of Wyvernmont begins, Arnald and Kysha must unite trolls, fae, and townsfolk in a desperate stand. But even if they survive the night, the true heart of the darkness still waits in the depths.
To destroy it, they will have to return to where it all began… and face the choice between safety and sacrifice, light and oblivion.

What first struck me in Robert E Krieg’s work is the gorgeous writing; it is lyrical, and the descriptions are terrific. From the very first chapter, I was immersed in the world the author evoked with words, and the captivating imagery kept me engaged. I followed compelling characters through trees that gather and hug each other closely. This is the kind of stylistic language you encounter in Pit Guard: Silver and Shadow, as the engaging dialogues fuel the conflict and move the plot forward. The setting's details capture feelings, sounds, and sights, teasing all the senses. The narrative is filled with action, the characters are well written, and the conflict grows from page to page. This author combines style, exceptional prose, and superb storytelling to entertain fans of epic fantasy. This book is deftly plotted and features a massive conflict in a well-imagined and stunningly developed world.

Pit Guard: Silver and Shadow had me riveted from the first sentence to the very last word of the story. Readers are immersed in a world that is meticulously designed with a clear idea of place — the lowlands, the forests, and the runes. Robert E Kreig knows how to create the terrifying and the exciting elements in a story, dropping premonitions that keep you reading on, expecting something terrible to happen, building suspense and tension as the conflict grows. The characters are engaging and fully developed, complex and unique in their nature. The storytelling is masterful, and the writing is stellar. I enjoyed the descriptive prose, the tight writing, the confident narrative voice, and the sparkling dialogue. This book delivers the kind of entertainment you get in epic fantasy tales and leaves you wanting more.

Author Robert E Kreig's incredible fantasy borders on horror. The narrative style reminded me of Stephen King, and I loved it. The partnership between Arnald and Kysha drives the story. Their personalities clashed in the best way possible, with their determination to find out why those boys died. The Upyr is genuinely scary and unsettling. The pace of the story is fast while also moving seamlessly from mystery to action to high-stakes tension. The worldbuilding is magical, and each scene feels realistic. I wanted to know what would happen next and how things would end. Pit Guard is a fantastic story and perfect for readers who enjoy novels with enough intensity to last for hours after they have finished reading.
